Mr Philip Gan, who was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Recognition in 2021 by the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East in acknowledgement of his work in laparoscopic surgery, has invented the LiVac retractro to improve recovery outcomes for patients after surgery.The LiVac retractor is a single-use soft silicone device that uses suction (rather than hand-held retractors and harsh metal devices) to create a vacuum to join solid organs like the liver and spleen, to the diaphragm during surgery.
